Character Name: Vergil
Canon: Devil May Cry 5
Canon History: Historyeee
Canon Personality:
"Might controls everything, and without strength you cannot protect anything, let alone yourself."
🔹 Has (mostly) complete control over his emotions. He doesn't get explosively angry or show many emotions that are too strong in one direction of another. He has a deep focus on keeping himself under a certain level of professionalism, and as a result he tends to come off as cold, impassive, and without any strong emotions. Only when something truly sets him off--when things don't go his way, or when he's frustrated to a point where he can't maintain the calmness he forces into his demeanour--does he let anything slip. When he does, his small bursts of emotion don't last long as he struggles to put a cap on them soon after they've managed to escape.
🔹 An extreme introvert. Vergil exudes a feeling of someone who truly isn't one to get close to others; he doesn't develop personal relationships (not even with his brother, who he regularly used to try to kill) and he holds everyone else in his life at an arm's length, as if he's afraid to get close to them. This likely stems back to when he was a child and he first experienced loss; as his one true wish in life was that, way back then, all he wanted was to be protected and loved. Older and Jaded as he is now, he seems to believe he doesn't need it--or, perhaps, that he doesn't deserve it.
🔹 A man of great pride. Hates fighting dirty, Vergil has a sense of honor, regardless of what the situation is. He despises dirty tricks, low blows, or even going up against an opponent who has a disadvantage in any sort of altercation against him. This stems back to his need to be seen as superior above others, to prove to those who witness him--and himself--that he's strong, and that he doesn't need to rely on cheap tricks or underhanded means to win. It's a pride thing, and dear god this man has a sense of pride that's through the roof.
🔹 Overly formal, in everything he does. When speaking, he tends to use antiquated language or long, drawn out speech where simple sentences or shortcuts would do. This once again likely hooks back into his sense of pride as a person--as well as his obsession with old literature, poetry, and history. Once again, he only seems to break free of this sort of staunch way of speaking when he's frustrated or angry--quickly regaining focus once he's collected himself.
🔹 A high focus on himself--a lust for power. One of Vergil's most driving traits is that he lives for improving himself, almost to a point of breaking. He was made to feel weak and useless when he was a child; left alone with noone to protect or save him when he was nearly ravaged apart by demons and as a result, it's pressed the idea cold-stone in his mind that the only way he'll never feel like that again is to constantly gain power. It's his obsession, like a drug--he's blind to nearly everything else in his life in his pursuit of getting stronger.
🔹 Extremely strong-willed. Both as a child and an adult-- being put in a situation where he very well could have died due to being so much weaker than those aiming to kill him, he has a drive to survive. Killing those who meant to kill him, surviving for years under the torture and madness of the underworld under Mundus before cracking--surviving long enough to steal Nero's arm to assure his survival when falling apart--Vergil is the sort of person to keep going forward until his body breaks down and he can no longer move. And even then, he'd find a way to get back onto his feet.
AU Name: Vergil Vittore
AU Birthday: June 30th
AU History: Coming from an affluential family background in Italy, Vittore graduated summa cum laude from University of Milan, Majoring in History with several minors in things such as language, literature, and folklore. While in his earlier years he attempted becoming a teacher, he quickly learned he doesn't have the patience to teach others, nor to babysit them through life, as his goals have always been bettering himself.
He instead used some of his inheritance money from his passed-on mother to buy himself a shop which he quickly used to start buying and selling antiquities from people who likely didn't know their true value or worth. Within ten years he became quite apt at it to a point where he's now comfortably living while mostly only buying things that interest him--such as old poetry books or interesting weapons.
He likely would have contented himself in remaining a quiet antiquated items dealer, however, it all came to a head when a patron in his shop sold him a very peculiar book which Vittore would normally never buy as it had no clear origins or historical value--yet when opening it, he found himself in a trance, reading it while ignoring everything around him for the next 24h.
Upon waking from his stupor, he found the mysterious bookseller gone, his shop somehow intact, and yet with nothing missing. As if the entire world had paused around him for an entire day. This is when he woke up to the existence of magic as he woke up to having strange abilities of his own, and his interests changed to learn more and more about this world that previously was completely hidden from him.
After about six months of research into this previously completely hidden world, he learned of Kaisou, and spent a large chunk of his fortune to move his entire shop and livelihood to the city where the supernatural is the norm, and he hopes to learn more magic and skills--as well as buy and collect magical items and artifacts to add to his collection. As so far, he has no idea that he lived another life as a different person--something that will likely change as he spends his days in Kaisou.
When reading the paranormal book, it put his body through a number of changes that 'awoke' him to the supernatural--gave him a few magic abilities as well as started him down a path where he'll eventually start to remember his past self. While he hasn't regained any of his previous self's powers, he eventually will--on top of the powers he gained from the world itself when awakening.
Currently, he's been in Kaisou for about three weeks, setting up his antiquities shop and has mostly been keeping to himself, until he's ready to open it and start buying and selling goods. It has an attached apartment upstairs and he lives alone.
AU Personality Differences:
🔹 In his AU, he will still be driven to gain new powers as he's fascinated with the existence of magic and the paranormal--however, his drive for it will be far less suicidal and focused. More of a hobby and an interest than an obsession.
🔹 He will also likely be a little more open to personal relationships, as his AU self did not suffer the abandonment and horrifying death of his mother and the feeling of being left behind by everyone who cared about him.

[ A voice yet unfamiliar to those on the Libra App will cut in at some point in the late evening, the sound of a throat being cleared, making sure his voice would be properly audible when he gets his message out on this... Libra App. Thing. ]
I hope your evening finds you well. For those who do not recognise me, by either the picture that this strange app has seen fit to take of me, or my voice, my name is Vergil Vittore. Mr. Vittore, for those who aren't well aquainted with me, please.
I am the owner and runner of Auguries of Innocence down in the Shopping District in Downtown. Many of you may recognise the shop, newly opened about two, perhaps three weeks ago as a place to buy and sell magical or non-magical artifacts of interest--usually my interest, at this point, but I digress.
I am aware of the plight that has happened to the city in recent with this App--it is part of the reason I have sought not to use it thus far, and half because I've been too busy for something like social interaction over social media while I established my shop in this city.
But, to the point.
1. Stop coming into my shop and asking to borrow, buy, or rent my rare weaponry or defensive items for this war you're apparently all preparing for. As the sign says, these items are antiques or for display only, and I'm very exasperated at this point at many beings' attempts to come and try to curry something rare off me with the argument of 'but I need it.' You do not. It is mine.
2. No, I will not be joining anyone in your odd foray into the unknown dangers of whatever it is that plights this city. Yes, it does concern me and yes, I am aware that it affects me too. However, I am a collector, not a fighter. So I'm not willing to risk my very mortal life for some act of heroism just because I have an arsenal of interesting weaponry at my disposal.
And 3. , I suppose, I will take this time to mention that yes, if you have any items of interest, you may indeed bring them to my shop and I will appraise them either for your own interest or, perhaps if I'm interested in buying them. I likewise buy old books and paintings, so I'm in the market for those as well--once again, so long as it interests me.
That is all.
Goodluck with your forays, and stop bothering me. And have a good evening.
